Baby?! B-A-B-Y Baby?! (Baby Driver Review)

Hello, there!

In case you haven’t guessed it, we are going to talk about films. Well, one film in particular. Baby Driver is an action comedy film written and directed by Edgar Wright and starring Ansel Elgort, who we know from The Fault in Our Stars, as the main character. Other actors we see in the movie are Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Eiza González, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx and Jon Bernthal. It premiered for the first time in March 2017 on the South by Southwest Film Festival but wasn’t released worldwide until summer. For those of you that are not familiar with it the plot, it resolves around the young getaway driver going by the name Baby (Yes, B-A-B-Y). After his parents died in a car accident when he’s only a child, he is left with partially impaired hearing and ferries the crews of bank robbers assembled by Doc, a mastermind heist planner, to pay off a debt he incurred after stealing one Doc’s cars. However, just when Baby thinks he is finally free and clear to have his own life with his new girlfriend, Debora, Doc coerces him back for another job. Now he finds himself and everything he cares for in grave danger. To survive, and escape once and for all this criminal world, will take all of Baby’s skills, wits and courage.

Hooking up the audience in the first few minutes is vital for a successful film and this one really does it. The opening scene is honestly thrilling. We witness Baby’s incredible talent behind the wheel and get an idea about the general mood of the film. From there on it only gets more and more amazing. Along with the aesthetically pleasing cinematography and the breathtaking stunts, I very much enjoyed the soundtrack. It has this retro vibe to it that fits perfectly with the scenes you see on the screen and gives the whole production an old-time feeling although it’s set in present days. The thing about this film that really impressed me, however, was the way it fluctuates between genres. At one moment you’re watching an electrifying action, the next one it turns into a sweet romantic comedy, then goes back to action. With all that back and forth switching it doesn’t get boring even for a second. The one thing I didn’t really like was the end but I guess that’s just because I like more dramatic endings and this was just a generic happy-end.baby-driver-1200-1200-675-675-crop-000000

Overall, Baby Driver managed to live up to my expectations and even surpass them. It’s honestly an astonishing movie, so if you are looking for something action packed, yet funny, with a sprinkle of romance, add this title in your to-watch list you won’t be disappointed.

My rating: 8.5/10

Deni’s Guide to Summer (Summer 2017 Favourites)

Hello, there!

How’s it going? As per usual I’m here with another generic blog-post. Yay? Summer makes me really lazy but although I love to sit around and just relax it’s high time I got out of my slumber and wrote something.  I’ve seen all of my favourite bloggers doing lists of their monthly or seasonal favourites so I decided to do one myself. Without more introductions here are my favourite things for this summer so far.

  • Music

Music-wise this year is a real blessing. So many musicians I love are making new music that it gets hard to keep up with all the new single (not that this is a bad thing). It was almost an impossible task but in this playlist I picked out my absolute summer jams.

  • Films and TV Series

– John Dies at the End

john-dies-at-the-end-poster-790x1171

I don’t know how such a cinematic masterpiece has slipped under my radar for 5 years but I’m happy that I found out about it. This is one of those films that you either hate or love. The plot seems chaotic and random at first but in the end all pieces come together and you’re mind blown. The story follows the adventures of two collage dropouts trying to save humankind from a silent, otherworldly invasion. If you’re into plot twists, dark humour and a pinch of horror you’ll love this film as much as I do.

-Spider-Man: Homecoming

spiderman_homecoming_ver6_xlgWe all know and love our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Since this is Marvel I had some pretty great expectations for this film and I gotta say it met all of them. It was funny, punny, action packed and overall amazing. Seeing one of my beloved super heroes in a new and fresh light really made me happy and I have to admit in my opinion Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man we’ve ever had. He perfectly managed to portray Spidey’s energetic personality on screen.

– Game of Thrones

the-night-king-and-viserion-got-season-7-fan-posterAfter a few months of  binge watching I finally caught up with GoT just in time for the new season. Honestly, I thought that this show can not get any better but the first episode of season 7 proved me wrong. Winter is finally here and things are more intense than ever. I can’t wait to see what direction the plot will take and who will sit on the Iron Throne in the end.

  • Phone Apps

– Love Nikki

screenshot_7_smallWho would have thought that 19-year old me would still enjoy dress-up games, because that’s exactly what this is. You can play story mode where you complete levels by styling your character for different occasions or compete against other players at the arena. Either way this is the most beautiful and addicting dress-up game I’ve come across.

– Yellow

screen696x696Yellow is by far one of the simplest, yet most pleasing games out there. Your goal is simple you have to make your whole screen a bright sunny yellow. In each level there is a different way to do that, you either have to pull, push or just move something, press a button or put pieces together like a puzzle. This game makes you use your mind and imagination, and it’s also very calming when you are feeling anxious.

  • Beauty Products

Wearing make-up is a real challenge in summer as the heat practically melts everything of your face.  That’s why I wanted to share the products that I use most during the hot season and that I swear by.

20271890_1726494927368717_1326647588_n

– MANHATTAN Perfect & Protect primer

Without primer it’s nearly impossible to keep your make-up looking good for the whole day, so this is the one I use. What I love about this product is that it’s not only a perfect base for every foundation, but it can also be used just as a face cream to even out your tan and give your face a subtle glow.

-BABY LIPS Dr Rescue

My all time favourite lip balm. I carry this in my handbag all the time no matter the season because my lips are extremely chapped and constantly need hydration.

-LLUMS Fixing Spray

Another summer must-have. Keeps your face nicely glowing and prevents your make-up from running and creasing even in the hottest days.

-BATISTE Dry Shampoo

Summer is a nightmare for girls with thick hair like me. It gets greasy from sweat only a few hours after you’ve washed it, so you need something to make it look good and fresh again without actually washing it. Well, this is the perfect solution! This dry shampoo comes in a lot of variations for different hair types, hair colours and with different fragrances. The one I like most is the Cherry scented because it keeps my hair fresh and also smells really nice.

Those were some of my summer favourites! Hope you’ve found this post interesting and useful.

Bye!

Let’s Go Get Lost in The Mountain! (I Am Back lol)

Hello, there!

Guess what, I am not dead! A lot of things have been happening in my life. I just graduated high school and I am still a little overwhelmed so I haven’t really been in the mood for writing. But now I’m back to share some pictures from the hike I went on the other day with my friends. Unfortunately, most of them were taken with my phone and really can’t do justice to the spectacular view. There are still some pretty good shots though.

Get Your Spring Mood ON!

Hello, there!

Transitioning between seasons is always hard (at least for me) and it can make you feel a lot under the weather. You shouldn’t worry though! Here are a couple ideas for activities that will help you fight the leftovers from the seasonal depression.

  • Go on a walkspring nature wallpapers tumblr backgrounds

Spring is the time when everything blooms and the air fills with the fresh smell of the awakening nature. So what better than putting on a pair of comfortable trainers and going on a long walk? Even if it’s just around the block I guarantee after that you will feel a lot more positive.

  • Dance tumblr_inline_nny0bx5zgj1srzw5g_500

If nature isn’t your thing and you prefer the comfort of your room you can always dance your bad vibes away. Just play your favourite tunes and get crazy! But try not to disturb the neighbours too much. 😉

  • Rearrange your closet

tumblr_static_tumblr_static_jtcqg6o57cgs04gk8g8ws4sw_640Spring means warmer weather. Warmer weather means fewer clothes. Fewer clothes means time to put the thick sweaters and cardigans in the back of your closet and bring out the T-shirts.

  • Clean the whole housecenerentola

You have already started with the closet so why not continue with the rest of the house? A little spring cleaning will surely make your home feel cozier.

In the end no matter what you do just fill your mind with positive thoughts because winter is over and summer is nearer.

My Kind of Romance (Valentine’s Day Special)

Hello, there!

Every year it’s all the same: chocolate, roses, red and hearts everywhere. Every year on this day I ask myself “What is real romance?” and I haven’t found an answer yet. When I was a child I assumed the only kind of romance is the one you see in films, but growing up I came to the realization it is nothing like this. We tend to associate romance with candle lit dinners, passionate kisses and promises of forever, and while part of me wants to believe in those sugarcoated dreams, everything rational in my mind screams that romance is so much more than that. Sadly, I am having a trouble expressing my idea of romance with words that’s why I made a playlist with songs I consider to be truly romantic.

Let’s pray that one day I’ll finally be able clear the concept of romance in my mind. Until then Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone that celebrates it!  xoxo

The World Could Always Use More Heroes (Generic Post About Overwatch)

Hello, there! lbbs5kq

I was trying to come up with ideas for blog posts and I noticed I haven written anything about gaming, and particularly about this one game currently consuming all of my free time.

Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter type of game brought to us by Blizzard, the company that created World of Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft and many other well-known video games. In it two teams of six players each are put against each other, with each player choosing one of the currently 23 pre-defined hero characters with unique weapons, movements and abilities. Heroes are divided into four classes: Offense, Defense, Tank and Support. Players on a team must work together to secure and defend control points on a map and/or escort a payload across the map in a limited amount of time. The team that manages to complete the objective before the time runs out wins. maxresdefaultI got the game for Christmas and up to this date I have more than 30 in-game hours in quick play mode. The graphics and the gameplay are amazing, but the thing I love most is the diversity of characters and their backstories. For the first time we have characters with so many different body types, skin colours and appearances overall. We have a dwarf, cyborg ninja, robots, even an intelligent talking gorilla. It is really hard for me to choose a character that I love most. When I first started playing my favourite character to play as was Sombra because I adore her character design, but now I play D.Va or Lucio most of the time since usually no one in my team wants to be tank or healer. Another cool about the game is that Blizzard have a strict policy for fair playing and ban hackers and cheaters. There are, however,  some things I don’t like. In my opinion a few of the characters are overpowered (could be just because I am not the most skilled player and I die easy). And of course just like any other multiplayer game it has those annoying jerks that just love to ruin the fun for everyone else. Nevertheless, I can say Overwatch is without doubt my favourite game at the moment.

If any of you reading this play it I am always looking for new people to play with, so feel free to add me. My user name is Royalsunbeam.

Peace out!

Just a Book Haul

Hello, there!

Some time ago I won a gift card for an online bookstore, and since it’s a new year I decided it’s time to get some new reads. Usually I go kind of crazy when I buy books. This time, however, I can proudly say I had some self control and bought only nine. Some of them I’ve been wanting to buy literally for years and others just caught my attention. As always (with a few exceptions) I stayed true to my favourite young-adult dystopian and fantasy genres .

Starting from the top the books I got are:

  • Femme Fatale by Guy deSDC13434.JPG Maupassant
  • The Terrors of the Night by Thomas Nashe

  • Anthem for Doomed Youth by Willfred Owen
  • The Girl With All the Gifts by M. R. Carey
  • All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • Bird Box by Josh Malerman
  • The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
  • Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman

I just truly hope I will be able to read all of them by the end of the year.

Wish me luck! 😀

Bye!
